Progressing Trans Healthcare Coalition

Trans Healthcare Action helped found the Progressing Trans Healthcare Coalition in 2024 as a community of grassroots and civil society organisations advocating in tandem for trans healthcare.

We saw a fractured space, where the grassroots often had little access to the charities and organisations were thus working in silos on similar issues. By pulling everyone together, aligning our aims and messaging, and supporting each other’s work, we are much more effective and organised.

As a coalition, our vision is to create a future where trans healthcare is based on the informed consent model, delivered in community and primary care settings, developed in co-production with the trans community, and aligned with an affirming approach to care for youth.

Our vision was developed through community meetings, where participants expressed a desire for care that is:

• Accessible: Free, easy to access, integrated, informed consent-based care, with hormone therapy available over-the-counter.

• Self-determined: A compassionate and inclusive healthcare system that is patient-led, affirming, intersectional, equitable, and decoupled from mandatory psychiatric assessments.

• Decentralised: Available in a variety of care settings including primary care, paediatrics, sexual health clinics, and pharmacies.

We hold monthly coalition meetings to connect, align, and collaborate on our activities to advance trans health. We also host public meetings and panels to gather insights and engage the community in our work.
